UPDATE: Going back to school with Veronica Mars

A year ago today I published this post for Veronica Mars which included this desk:

I knew it to be IKEA but I just couldn't find the name. Someone in the comments tried help but it was the wrong lead. Then last night, purely by happenstance, I found it!!

It is a MOTIV

Now, if anyone happens to have one and is looking to sell it...

Dorm Room Furniture

If you recently got an IKEA flyer in the mail promoting back to college shopping you are not alone. Today I ventured to my local IKEA and it turned out to be an ill-advised decision. A combination of college move-ins, holiday weekend and rainy weather resulted in a traffic jam of epic proportions. As I sat in traffic I began to think about the movies and television shows which take advantage of the affordable and versatile IKEA catalog to dress their fictional dorms.

We saw a snippet of this in a post from 2012. In the 3rd season of Veronica Mars our favorite characters find themselves solving crimes (and attending classes) at Hearst College.

Most of the rooms seen in season 3 of Veronica Mars are furnished with the same basics. There is a LACK wall shelf unit hung horizontally, a MIKAEL desk (bottom only) and MIKAEL drawer unit.

It is hard to get a screencap of it but the rooms have MALM single beds in birch.

Accenting the wall behind Mac's bed are two ANNO VACKER (discontinued) curtain panels on what is possible a KVARTAL system.

The RA's room has the MIKAEL desk and drawer unit.

But, since the room is a bigger single it also has GORM shelving units, GRUNDTAL spice rack, and large BURKEN jars on the counter and GORM unit.

After the jump prepare to get pitch slapped!

Pink, True Love and IKEA

I was incredibly excited to see Pink's new video for the song "True Love" and I couldn't believe it when I saw the TORVA soft toys take a rather prominent role in the 2nd half of the video.

At first you only see them in the back ground in some of the opening scenes. Around the 2:19 mark in the video below Pink gets the toys from an audience member. We then see the toys in what I think is the green room* and then they take on a completely surreal life of their own as the video progresses.

*The chairs & table seen in the green room are the FÄRGGLAD and SANSAD

Adorably Geeky - Star Trek vs. IKEA

Three day weekend. High chance of precipitation. Cancelled camping trip. You know what that means? A lot of TV watching and getting the blog up & running again.

I have a backlog of stuff in my files, half finished drafts, and some tips from you readers. Time to get writing.

To tide you over until my next full post watch the video below and take the "Star Trek Character or IKEA" quiz with the cast of Star Trek Into Darkness.

I was 3 for 3. How adorable is Benedict Cumberbatch & his IKEA knowledge?

Real Beauty

This commercial has been making the rounds on Facebook today. I watched it for the revealing, honest experiment by Dove but I couldn't help but notice the IKEA items furnishing the loft.

A little Hart this Valentine's day

I recently discovered this silly little show called Miranda. It is an UK comedy staring Miranda Hart. It is funny and silly and I adore Miranda so much. While I have enough material for a larger post, I thought this specific spotting was appropriate.

In series 1, episode 5 the FAMNIG HJARTA cushion makes an appearance in a Valentine's display.

And for a little insight to how Miranda feels about this day:

Even in Middle Earth

The highlight of the very disappointing Jennifer Lawrence hosted Saturday Night Live this past Saturday was undoubtedly the pre-recorded Hobbit video.  It was clever with a high production value plus they made a classic (and random) IKEA joke.

For the full joke watch clip below (the full video is only 3min and worth a watch too) :

Extra credit to the art department for using a genuine IKEA dresser for the gag.

FJELL 4 drawer pine chest

As a ringer and IkeaSpotter I couldn't have been more delighted.

"This girl was in dire need of a trip to IKEA." - Richard Castle. Season 2, episode 15

I caught a syndicated episode of Castle today and because it was an episode I had already seen I played it in the background as I did some chores. Looking up I saw a SPONTAN magazine rack that is when I realized I had a whole back log of spottings from my marathon viewing...checks date...almost 2 years ago.

The last time I blogged about the show I was just completing the first season. I got to the first episode of the 3rd season before something else caught my attention. I have every intention of going back (or just jumping in now) however, I should clear out my Castle spotter file before anything else builds up.

The episode tonight was season 2 episode 23. The SPONTAN is in the waiting area.

This shot is from S2.E2
Also in episode 23 there are ORDNING Cutlery Caddy used as pen holders. (Click to make big)

Throughout season 2 there are more spottings.

S2.E1 The bow lights with the paper lanterns are REGOLIT and the red pendant lamps are KULLA.

S2.E3 Surrounding the runway at a fashion show are white BRASA table lamps.

S2.E5 In the morgue there are DROPPAR jars as seen in these screencaps from season 2.

S2.E15 LUNTA floor lamp in the background in this lobby set.

S2.E17 Beckett's apartment there are BURKEN jars on the shelf by the window and above the stove are EKBY MOSSBY/EKBY BJÄRNUM combination shelves. On the lower shelf there is what looks like an IKEA 365+ saucepan.

Season 2 saw the end of Beckett's apartment. I will need to continue watching to find out what they gave her for a new apartment. For now, I have some more caps from season 1 to post soon.

No, no Boo Boo

Scrolling through the comment section of my favorite blog I come across this gif:

Took me a second to see the EXPEDIT behind the mom from that show.

And no, I will not watch an actual episode to see if there is more IKEA to be spotted.
