What is this cra...oooo, IKEA!

I'm usually not home to watch daytime TV but today I was flipping channels and stopped on a show featuring the usual baby daddy drama. The thing that caught my eye was the 2x2 EXPEDIT used as a TV stand.

Then I heard the hosts accent and realized it is British import Trisha Goddard. I recognize her from Shaun of the Dead and the post Z-Day TV montage at the end of the film. After wondering why the heck she has a TV show in the US now I continued flipping channels.

Clip of Trisha from Shaun of the Dead. (Apologize for the poor sound quality)

When the subject line says "Ikea!!" you know it will be good.

I love when my friends spot something and very excitedly send me emails like this:

Private Practice, Good Grief, third episode of the current season?

My duvet cover in blue in the last couple minutes of the show in Lucas' room.

HUZZAH!

The "my duvet cover" she mentions is the SMÖRBOLL (or as I usually think of it - the one with so many dots) which she has in green. Based on her info I pulled up the episode, jumped to the last scene and there it was along with a SKOJIG pendant lamp.

Thanks Rachelle!
If you've stumbled upon this site or are a regular reader and you've spotted something recently send me an email at ikeaspotter[at]gmail[dot]com and I'll include it in a future post.

Yard Sale

In season 4, episode 6 of Modern Family the Pritchetts and Dunphys have a yard sale for charity. As I compulsively do, I spent most of the episode scanning the background for something IKEA. Lo and behold hidden in all the furniture and knick knacks I found a couple of items.

First I saw a VILMIE RUTA cushion on a chair:

Later on in the episode there is a blue HEMNES 6-drawer chest. (The blue is no longer available.)

And just for fun - the shirt Luke wears throughout the episode is called "Funkalicious" and can be bought at the awesome site Threadless

Etiquette

I'm so very glad people enjoy my blog. It takes a lot of time to create all the pictures and build each post. I love that people actually read and comment on my little pet project.

Please, share with your friends, send me emails and leave me comments when you've seen something you liked.

However, if you reblog, repost or share my content anywhere else please give me the proper source credit. I've found my posts copied verbatim on other sites and that makes me sad.

I'm denied the satisfaction of knowing how much I am sharing my unique skill and love of IKEA with the Internet.

I'm not looking for fame and glory, just credit where credit is due.

Thank you!

My laptop, she's sick.

That moment of panic when you stare at the blank screen of your crippled laptop and can't remember if your screen caps and product photos were backed up on your external hard drive.

I really hope they were.

Of course without a working computer I cannot check the hard drive and ease my anxiety.

I have some draft posts that I hope to get up once I get a hang of this mobile app. However, I think my customary image heavy posts will be too difficult to create without a functioning laptop. I'll keep you updated.

Help me rebuild my files. Send me your spottings at ikeaspotter at gmail dot com.

It's amazing how fleeting perfection can be.

We're still celebrating back to school week here at IKEA Spotter with more Veronica Mars. I'm picking up where I left yesterday mid-way through season 2.

Season 2, episode 5: SALMI dining table and the glass top has been etched with astrology images. On the back bookcase is a BURKEN jar.

Season 2, episode 15: HEMNES chest of drawers.

ANEBODA 3-drawer night stand (discontinued).

FÖRHÖJA kitchen cart.

A wide view of the FÖRHÖJA kitchen cart, ANEBODA 3-drawer nightstand and MIKAEL desk (discontinued).

Season 2, episode 16: Red LAMPAN lights.

Season 2, episode 18: MACKIS storage boxes (discontinued) are over the teachers right shoulder.

Season 3, episode 1: LACK wall shelf unit hung horizontally, MIKAEL desk (bottom only) and MIKAEL drawer unit.

GORM shelving units, GRUNDTAL spice rack, and large BURKEN jars on the counter and GORM unit.

The remainder of Season 3 is on my playlist. I'm sure I'll be back with more soon.

New location for the Leverage team.

Leverage is back! As I wrote aboutpreviously, the Leverage team’s HQ for seasons 2 thru 4 was Nate’sloft in “Boston” and furnished with IKEA. About a quarter of the way through the final episode of Season 4 we get the reveal that the Leverage team cleared out of their HQ :

Makes you wonder what the production team did with all those furniture pieces now that the set isn't going to be used any more.
Thisseason is set in Portland Oregon, the city where they've actuallyfilmed the show all these years. I will admit that Portland did a good job of filling in forBoston but it is nice to see the show lovingly pay tribute to thecity that has been so good to them.

The new HQ is a loft above a restaurantand the team conveniently owns the restaurant as well. While the loftHQ has not yet yielded any good IKEA spotting, the restaurant has a EXPEDIT unit turned wine rack.

Cap from episode 4

Multi-versatile EXPEDIT, we love thee.

Going back to school with Veronica Mars

It is that time of year again. Crisp fall air, the urge to buy school supplies and apparently the motivation to complete posts that have sat in my drafts folder for a year. A year ago I first started watching and posting about Veronica Mars. Take a moment to refresh yourself with my previous Veronica Mars posts here. I'm going to continue coverage with featured guest appearances (one-off, temporary sets) of IKEA pieces in season 1.

1x12: In the waiting area of the High School front office is a SPONTAN magazine rack.

1x14: At the Mars Detective offices is a FRÄCK mirror. This mirror is always present in the offices but this is the first time it is clearly seen in the series.

1x18: The suspects of the week both have IKEA bedrooms. The first has a MALM 6-drawer dresser on the right.

JULES swivel desk chair and yellow HELMER drawers (yellow discontinued). I know I had the name of this desk scribbled down but I can't find my notes and Google search isn't helping me right now. Does anyone know the name? (UPDATE: MOTIV desk!)

This is a very dark scene but there is a birch 3-drawer ANEBODA dresser (right) and MIKAEL corner desk (center), both discontinued.

I have one more post for season 2 and the beginning of season 3 prepared. I still have to finish watching season 3. Hopefully, a year after I started, I can wrap these posts and finish the show itself.

Dial back on the sugar kid.

Surfing online I came across this insanely high energy, slightly trippy, commercial for Weetabix, a UK cereal.

Once you get past the dancing bears (am I the only one who thought of Ted?) and the girl's amazing dance moves there is quite a lot of IKEA to be seen.

In this wide shot you can see a JULES desk chair, FIRA mini-chest of drawers (discontinued), MILLINGE rug and a turquoise PS FÅNGST.

A close up of the PS FÅNGST (at the foot of the bed) and the bed that isn't any of the IKEA beds I could find.

A close up of the FIRA.

On the reverse view of the room, by the door, is a KRITTER chair.

There is an interesting behind the scenes video which shows you how the video was made and a look at the coolest bear costumes. The video can be seen here.

iGot a Hot Room revisit

A commenter on the iCarly Loves IKEA post makes a eagle eyed observation:

Anonymous Dec 21, 2011 10:16 AM
in the room that had burned down in the beginning of the episode, if you look at the bed it is the IKEA LEIRVIK bed with ash spread on it.

This is the LEIRVIK bed frame:

This is the LEIRVIK beautifully distressed to look like it was, moments ago, in the middle of a fire.

I always wonder how art departments choose furniture that is only seen in a brief scene

Steven Moffat is a big tease.

The above tweet was posted by Steven Moffat a few days ago prior to the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival (MGEITF). Series 2 won a couple more awards and a Sherlock master class was held. Seeing Moffat's tweet and reading the subsequent new reports motivated me to re-watch episode 3, The Reichenbach Fall.

The premiere episode of Series 2 (the above mentioned "woman") was already highlighted back in January but I never published the post from Fall. In the scenes where Sherlock is searching the boarding school bedrooms of two abducted children there are several IKEA pieces.

ASPELUND night stands by all of the beds. Near this particular bed is a yellow MARIUS stool.

The corner of the box seen on the right side of this cap is a LINGO box (discontinued).

In this wide view there is a STUVA cabinet on the left and LUSY BLOM carpet on the right. Also note more of the ASPELUND nightstands by the beds.

Another STUVA cabinet with the tell tale square cutout for the handle.

The wait between series is almost unbearable. Fortunately during the Master class the three word clues for series 3 were revealed:

hmm...
Sue Vertue (producer) also gave a general production timeline for Series 3:

Sue confirmed again that Series Three will begin filming in January 2013, and aims to be delivered to the BBC in August next year. (Official broadcast date TBD) via

Giddy delight

My 2013 IKEA catalog is here!!!

It is so much earlier than last year. What an awesome surprise! Now if you'll excuse me...
