Do you like scary movies?

So is the white HEMNES mirror chest the new horror movie prerequisite? We saw it during Nightmare on Elm Street (here) and now I spotted it in a trailer for the upcoming Scream 4.

You know the rules of surviving a horror movie? I wonder if a new one will be added. If a scantily clad girl has one of these in her room, can we assume she's doing to die? I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Until then you can watch the trailer here.

Chuck me. An IKEA shout out.

I have made no attempts to hide the fact that I am a little CHUCK  obsessed. Besides being an incredibly fun show it is also loaded with IKEA goodness. In fact I've posted about it here, here, here and here.

I finally caught up with this past Monday's episode and this show made me squee yet again. An IKEA shout-out and the use of an authentic IKEA product name. Watch the clip: (non-US viewers, sorry this doesn't work for you.)

BTW - the GRUNKA spoons are a 4 piece kitchen utensil set.

At the end of the recap over at BuddyTV there is a poll asking "What IKEA item would you consider naming your child?" Warning : spoilers in the recap.

Boy bands & IKEA

Having a boy band to fancy and dance along with is a right of passage for every young girl. More importantly the fight to defend their honor against snarky critics is an essential character building exercise. Think back over the years and you can find at least one for every generation. (Unless you were growing up in the late 90s/ early 2000s where they were so many it felt like a boy band infestation). Thanks to Nickelodeon my niece has a band called Big Time Rush.

As I sit watching Big Time Rush with my niece and cringe at the hammy acting, auto tuned songs and random cartoon sound effects I have to remind myself to bite my tongue. It isn't fair to her. We have all been there. Heck, 20 years later I am still defending my beloved New Kids on the Block. I am not saying BTR will have any such longevity or produce any competent actors. I am simply saying I should sit back and allow my niece to experience the hard burn and quick fizzle into obscurity that is the fate of 98% of all boy bands.

In the show, the boys are supposed to be living in a hotel in Los Angles. Like the unrealistic but fun to look at apartment on iCarly, the set of BTR is decorated with some of the brightest stuff IKEA has to offer.

We first start off in the kitchen area. Along the wall is the GRUNDTAL system with BYGEL containers, a 3 tin set that is now discontinued and an ORDNING cutlery caddy.

There is also an VÅLLÖ watering can

And SLIPAD knife block and a DRÄLLA chopping board

Up on the balcony is a KNAPPA pendant lamp.

The living room has the brilliant orange TYLÖSAND sofa (discontinued Spring, 2011) with footstool, IKEA Stockholm Figur rug and STRIND coffee table.

There is also a GALANT desk with JULES chairs in the corner.

The screencaps were only taken from one episode, entitled Big Time Guru. No doubt I will be watching more of this show in the future so I will keep on a look out for more IKEA.

Supernanny - must see TV.

My niece is obsessed with Supernanny. She knows exactly when it is on and has to watch it. I like to think it is a 6 year old's Jerry Springer or Maury. She can look at those wild children and feel good about herself. She isn't a naughty, undisciplined child like she sees on the show.

This past Friday we were watching together, along with my sister and she kept asking when her favorite part - Ask Supernanny - would come on. I was amused when the segment came on, not only by her enthusiasm, because we were able to recognize her bed.

A KURA bed with bed tent

And the TROFAST system with the discontinued doors.
She has had both in her room for quite a few years now. I remember the momentous occasion when the KURA was finally flipped to become a loft bed. It is a testament to IKEA's durability and versatility that a child is able to grow up with the same products without getting bored.

I got caught up on a few of her other favorite TV shows that night. Luckily for me, sitting through them was not without reward. I have more spottings so stay tuned.

Think of the children!

The good thing about having the majority of my television viewing being online or via Netflix Streaming is the lack of commercials. We do have to endure some commercials on Hulu but only a small fraction compared to TV. The downside to that is sometimes I miss genuinely clever commercials.

The other night I was watching good old regular broadcast TV at my sister's and caught this bright gem from Neosporin/Band-Aid:

Besides having a catchy tune and a slightly odd tag-line did you see anything else?

How about MAMMUT stools

And an EXPEDIT with what could be blue & orange FRÄJEN towels.

This picture shows a close up of the towels, a cutie-patootie girl and a sink cabinet that screams IKEA (even though I can't place it.)

I love Children's IKEA because it is bright and colorful. It is whimsical without being overly precious. Precious accessories have their place of course but it is much harder to find IKEA's style of children's accessories.

My TV watching that night resulted in a few other IKEA spottings which will help me with this week's theme "Growing up with IKEA." Stay tuned!

Simpsons - adult content

So, um...I'm not sure how to post this without getting anyone in trouble. I include myself in that since my family reads this and I would have to explain how I managed to come across such a thing.

I blame my beloved geek sites. While I check in for news on The Hobbit or Doctor Who I occasionally come across things that warp my fragile, innocent mind. They make me click links that take me to places....and look at things that are so. very. wrong. It's all their fault!

There, now I've absolved myself and reaffirmed my virtue. In my dedication to be thorough and also because I may be running out of material it is my duty to point out an orange KLIPPAN sofa spotted in promotional photos for a new XXX Simpsons' parody. Yes, you read that right.

The images are mostly safe for work but I've put them behind the break as an added precaution.

The teen side of IKEA

Teen shows love using IKEA. It may be because of the wide selection of bright, bold colors or the modern design. We've looked at the iCarly set and the ABCFamily show Secret Life of the American Teenager and today we look at Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place.

I can't really tell you what this show is about since I've never seen it. I found a reference online regarding the IKEA furniture so I went in search of screencaps to make things easier for me.

The dinette area has the DOCKSTA dining table and an ANDREA RUND rug (discontinued).

In the living room are several pieces from the TYLÖSAND (discontinued Spring 2011) sofa series with the orange slipcover. I am beginning to like the orange.

The kitchen on this set is really incredible. They have covered every square inch of the wall with the stainless steel GRUNDTAL series. It is a quite extensive display of all the options available. One would think it was a showroom kitchen. Click for a larger image.

Thanks to SerenaGomezWeb for the screencaps.

Lost in IKEA

Today is the last day of the big IKEA sale. The stores will most likely be crowded making the already confusing labyrinth even more treacherous. This video gives excellent advice on how to proceed.

Take notes. Be prepared. Don't let this happen to you!

One of the things I love about IKEA is being able to purchase mid-century modern design furniture at a reasonable price. Although lately it seems like they are moving away from that, but I digress. I have always loved the look but not the price of an Eero Saarinen Tulip dining table. Fortunately IKEA has the DOCKSTA which has enough of the look and feel of the original to satisfy me.

$1,700+
$179

Unfortunately, IKEA doesn't selling coordinating Tulip chairs but as we can see in the following spottings the DOCKSTA looks good with a variety of chairs.

In the break room on Glee the DOCKSTA is paired with...unknown plastic chairs.

In the break room on NCIS, the DOCKSTA is paired with the TOBIAS chair for a very modern look.

Season 5, episode 8

Also if you are interested in more DOCKSTA ideas Apartment Therapy has had many posts about it.

Super secret spy base - CHUCK

The long stretch of winter re-runs is coming to a close. I am thankful because we have not had a new episode of CHUCK since NOVEMBER 29th. That is crazy. As it is I still have to wait a couple of weeks more until January 17th.

As I wait for the continuation of the 4th season I thought I would highlight a few more IKEA goodies from the show. At the end of Season 3 the spy base - called Castle - located beneath the Buy More was destroyed when the Buy More exploded. For season 4 we were introduced to a new, shiny castle.

We've seen a bit of it in the EMU spotting post  back in October. What I didn't mention in that post was all the other IKEA things going on in that photo.

You can begin to make out the JANSJÖ work lamps and DACKE shelves. (*Based on shelf count I've determined they are the now discontinued DACKE shelves. However, they do look like the much cheaper HYLLIS shelves. Either would work.) If you enlarge the photo you can see that the work station to her left is actually a DACKE kitchen island (also discontinued).

HYLLIS

Here is a close up of some of the JANSJÖ scattered throughout Castle. Also, in the image blow I think those are CAPITA legs holding up the shelf on the work table.

The DACKE shelves were given a base for stability? height? mobility? I don't know but you can see a close-up here in the left hand corner.

And here is a shot of even more shelves.

So there you have it. If you want to turn your basement or garage into a top secret spy base the most cost effective way is to purchase the $14.99 HYLLIS shelving unity and add random gadget-y looking things. Adorkable spy with his hot spy girlfriend are optional.

Confirmed, Plausible, Busted or Spotted.

My new toy is a "new to me" Xbox 360 which enables me to stream Netflix Live on my TV. As I've mentioned, I don't have cable so this has enabled me to watch shows I rarely get to see. Like the two day marathon of one of my favorite shows, Mthybusters. As I was watching every collection they had available I was surprised to have spotted a couple of things. I have to switch my streaming from the TV to the computer so I could screencap but it was still incredibly convenient. (Sorry if it sounds like a commercial, I am simply excited for my new toy).

In the "Grenades and Guns" episode Grant is tasked with listening to a self-hypnosis CD and he spends some of his time relaxing in a POÄNG chair.

Also in that episode, Adam is listening to his CD in a bedroom that looks to have a yellow LACK nightstand.

Now here is an example of me getting all excited over nothing. In the "Exploding Bumper" episode I saw this:
And I get all hyped up thinking a NISSE folding chair would be my first spotting in a Mythbusters episode. Unfortunately, as I went to do the screen grab I realized my error.

I think in my mind I created a NISSE, HERMAN hybrid.

Oh well, I went on to find a couple of other things to write about. Just to show you it isn't easy to spot things but is fun none-the-less.

UPDATE 2/21 -
Thanks to Samuel (see comments) it looks like the above folding chair may be IKEA after all. There once was a folding chair named NICK and this is it:

Looks like a good match to me!
